Tea House After Restoration

The Rehabilitated Tea House was designed to blend into the landscape instead of drawing attention to itself.  With the trellis removed and the introduction of simple board and stucco panels, the exterior building vocabulary was simplified and streamlined to create a more serene appearance.  The separation of the skirt under the sipping counter from the floor structure also lightened the visual structure of the building enhancing its elegant proportions.  The addition of the irori, or traditional sipping table at the center of the space serves as a centerpiece symbolizing the return of the new operation to a more authentic and experience by providing a beautiful setting for a traditional tea service.
